for these two impactful organizations.

saving lives across the world

End Polio Now

Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a paralyzing and potentially deadly infectious disease that most commonly affects children under the age of 5. The virus spreads from person to person, typically through contaminated water. It can then attack the nervous system.

Rotary has now been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years. Our goal of ridding the world of this disease is thankfully closer than ever.

As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, Rotary has reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent since its first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979.

Today, polio remains endemic only in Afghanistan and Pakistan. But it’s crucial to continue working to keep other countries polio-free. If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.

BUILDING ETHICAL REASONING IN CHILDREN

Epic Ethics for Peaceful Schools

Epic Ethics for Peaceful Schools began as the Peaceful Schools Program, a Rotary project to promote safe, respectful and compassionate school climates for children and youth. The program was developed by Colorado Rotary Clubs in partnership with the Conflict Center and Operation Respect. The program is based on Rotary’s guiding principles, together called the 4-Way-Test, to enhance character development and community through a series of literacy-based classroom lessons combining stories and activities with interactive student discussion.

The program has proven to be a powerful, proactive, and results-oriented curriculum for developing both ethical character and social-emotional learning in children and youth. Since 2015, this program has been implemented in hundreds of schools in Colorado and worldwide.
